Just returned from Lookingglass Theatre Chicago workshopping: The Adventures of Yuri Kochiyama, written and directed by the incomparable J. Nicole Brooks, company member extraordinaire. We were struck with the news on the morning of our first day of work that Yuri had passed away. It was a surreal, overwhelming moment. I watched Nicky take the news with both heartbreak and grace. She rallied together, assembled her team at her theatre, and led us bravely towards Yuri's bright light. It was one of the best experiences working on new work I've had. And I cannot wait till you see what we are building. Also, just to nerd out a moment, I got to work with some of my favorite fuckin actors around: Anthony Fleming, Rusty Scwhimmer, Yadi Correia, Lisa Tejero, Tamberla Perry, Wai Yim, Tanya McBride, and Thom Cox.
So here's to making beautiful art and telling the stories of our ancestors and our past so that we can make a better future.
Rest in Power Yuri.
What a beautiful prism.
Un millione di grazie.
