Played an Australian Cult Leader in a reading J. Julian Christopher's 'Bundle of Sticks' directed by Christopher Burris, part of Pipeline Theatre's Week of Extraordinary Risk
Had a lovely time working with the fierce and delightful talents over at Pipeline Theatre Co. on my dear friend J Julian Christopher's bold, hilairous, and exciting new play 'Bundle of Sticks.' And had the pleasure of finally getting to work with director Christopher Burris, whose work I've admired for many years.
Workshops for my plays "A Priori A Posteriori' and "Private Catholic Mixtape '89-01" with The Tank and Theatre 167 were a great success!
I was fortunate enough to receive a residency from The Tank NYC this past winter to do developmental work on my plays 'A Priori A Posteriori" and 'Private Catholic Mixtape '89-'01' The presentation of A Priori was performed at The Tank, was directed by Nidia Medina and myself, and starred Jen Anaya, Eric Miller, Perri Yaniv, Rami Margron, Blythe Foster, and Hennessy. Theatre 167 produced the presentation of "Private Catholic' as part of their Wet Ink Festival, and it starred Jen Anaya, Stacey Raymond, William Oliver Watkins, Jody Christopherson, Sharina Martin, Laura Lamberti, Rocky Vega, and Matt Welsh.
I had the privilege of working intensely for three months with my Epic Theatre Ensemble/Urban Assembly of Harlem students on their incredible re-telling of Romeo and Juliet, under the direction of Artistic Director Melissa Friedman. I was not only fight director, choreographer, and acting mentor for over 30 students, but I also played Friar Laurence. We had a soft out 5 days run at The National Black Theatre and our audiences were blown away. It's an experience I will never forget. It's a great honor and joy to be a teaching artist with Epic, and this production was particularly special. Hope to see you at the shows this next year!
Started year off playing theorist Mackenzie Wark in staged reading of "I'm Very Into You," at The Special Effects Festival
First week of the year I had the pleasure of working on Sara Lyon's adaptation of the book "I'm Very Into You," by Kathy Acker and Mackenzie Wark-an exchange of emails, in the 90s, between the two theorists after having had a brief fling in Sydney. Sara Lyons was also our director, and I got to work alongside one of my favorite NY actors, Emily Davis, who played Kathy. It was performed as part of the Special Effects Festival, performed at the Wild Project in the East Village. The reading was a great success! Mackenzie Wark was generous enough to attend and loved the piece. (And I got to do an Australian accent for the first time!). You should really look up both Kathy and Mackenzie, they are brilliant people.
